Marlborough Downs

3.75 miles to 9.75 miles

If you are looking for walks with great views then head over to the Marlborough Downs. We have 3 walks in this area which all require a bit of effort and some hill climbs. The initial route is 3.75 miles and takes you up Rough Hill. The second Marlborough Downs route is longer (7.25 miles) and goes to Rockley, along the White Horse Trail. You will need plenty of energy for this walk but you will be rewarded with great views of the countryside around Marlborough.

Our final Marlborough Downs walk is a 10 mile trek that also takes you to the famous Barbury Castle which is an ancient hill fort. Like the other walks here, please be prepared for lots of inclines and hills, so lots of energy and fitness will be needed. The views are worth it though!

Savernake Forest

1.75 miles and 6 miles

Savernake Forest is a vast woodland area near Marlborough with lots of walks, woodland paths and picnic areas to enjoy. We have a few Savernake Forest walks on the Wiltshire Walks app including an easy stroll through the forest and a long woodland adventure giving you the change to explore the array of ancient trees and wildlife. A map for one of the Savernake Forest walks is shown below.

Fyfield Down

4.25 miles and 7 miles

This is a wonderful walk around the Fyfield Down National Nature Reserve in the Marlborough Downs. There is a fair amount of hill walking on this walk, but the effort is worth it for the views. This is an extended version of the beautiful Fyfield Down walk. It enjoys all of the same beautiful views of the Marlborough Downs and the Fyfield Down Nature Reserve, and it also takes in a stretch of the Wessex Ridgeway path.

Martinsell Hill

1.75 miles and 7.75 miles

This is a short walk that takes you around the summit of Martinsell Hill near Marlborough. The start is already half way up the hill in terms of altitude, so even though there is still a bit of climbing to get to the top, it's not too bad and the views are stunning.

This is a truly glorious and varied adventure around the Vale of Pewsey. It will take you around the top of Martinsell Hill which offers stunning views, it'll take you through lovely countryside along the White Horse Trail, it'll meander along a big stretch of the Kennet and Avon Canal and it'll visit the pretty village of Wootton Rivers with it's charismatic pub. There is some moderate climbing on this route and our users have recommended walking this one anticlockwise to get a steep climb out of the way early in the walk and also put the welcome pub more towards the end of the walk. Refreshments: The Royal Oak, Wootton Rivers.

Great Bedwyn

5.25 miles and 6.5 miles

This is a pleasant circular walk from the village of Great Bedwyn near Marlborough. Expect open countryside, woodland and canal-side walking on this varied walk. There is a section of road walking on this walk. Refreshments: The Three Tuns, Great Bedwyn The Swan Inn, Wilton

This alternative route is a lovely varied walk from Great Bedwyn that enjoys lots of lovely woodland walking, some open countryside and a long stretch of the canal.

West Woods

1.25 miles and 3.25 miles

The first walk is a short family-friendly stroll around the pretty West Woods to the south west of Marlborough. These woods are especially beautiful in the spring time when there is a wonderful carpet of Bluebells to enjoy. The second route is a longer walk that takes you deep into and around the lovely West Woods. As with the first route, this walk is especially pretty in spring when the bluebells are in bloom.
